Lead Physiotherapist
Leander Walton BSc (HONS), MCSP, HPC
Leander is a chartered physiotherapist with registration to the Health Professions Council and a member of the chartered society of physiotherapy. She graduated from Coventry University in 1998 with a BSc (HONS) in Physiotherapy and went on to work for Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, Kent. She worked at Medway for just under 6 years, working through rotations to achieve a basic grounding and then choose to specialise in neurology. She then moved back to the Midlands and worked as a senior physiotherapist for University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust (Queen Elizabeth and Selly Oak hospitals), gaining invaluable experience in neurosurgery, neurology and stroke.
She opened her own private practice in February 09 – Prospect Physio - fulfilling a dream of being able to provide neurological physiotherapy in a purpose built unit designed specifically to meet the needs of neurological patients.
Leander is primarily Bobath trained; a treatment technique used specifically by neurological physiotherapists. She has attended many post-graduate training courses including a 3 week intensive Bobath course. She continues to maintain her clinical skills by attending further specialised courses and follows new developments through special interest groups such as ACPIN (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Neurology). She also has links with local and national groups such as The Stroke Association and The MS Society.
